So, you have taken the plunge. You bought that notebook and that pen, warmed up that computer, or chiseled it on stone, but you wrote that first chapter. Now what? Do you write the next chapter or edit this one, honing it to brilliance? Either could be your next step. And as a writer you need to find the path that works best for you. However, beware! If you choose to edit that first chapter, snipping and smoothing, reworking and rewriting it, til it is PERFECT, in that way could lay madness. Most writers who have worked at the craft for any time have piles of starts to projects. Some of those opening chapters are brilliant. Some are dreck and deserved being dropped before they were completed. But if you spend so much time polishing chapter one that you never write chapter two, or three, or four,- well you get the gist, youll never have a book. Starting is good, but finishing is wonderful.
