So you might be sitting there thinking to yourself; Whats the big deal? I mean the mines up in Ishpeming dont seem to have effected me personally and theyve been there forever. Whats another MINE? Its just Big Bay anyway.... Well guess what? This IS different. Why? Because water, thats why. And whether youre in Big Bay or Marquette or even anywhere along the lake, you ought to be OUTRAGED. Why should you be outraged? Because; A) The Michigan DEQ, allegedly looking out for the interests of environmental quality, wants to proceed with allowing MORE poison to be pumped into the water system. B) Because the Mine and the DEQ would like to remove any reporting requirements from the permitting schema such that there will be NO PAPER TRAIL or publicly-accessible documentation to track of the mines actual record of environmental impact. C) Because the mine and the MDEQ made a conscious, joint decision to hold the upcoming public hearing in a community that is not only NOT an effected community (Westwood) - but is also a hotbed of support for the general mining industry - a move clearly calculated to sway the awareness and the attendance base. D) Because the taxpayer-funded organization that is ostensibly meant to be looking our for OUR best interests and the interest of ENVIRONMENTAL QUALITY - consistently and continually takes actions that are clearly supportive of a global corporation whose interests are best served through pushing the issue of ENVIRONMENTAL QUALITY to the bottom of the priority list beneath PROFIT. Please get informed and come out to show your support and be the voice of The Community and The Environment..... the UP doesnt have a Lorax.... were counting on YOU.
