So you tell me that somebody or other (Am not taking any names) - TopicsExpress

So you tell me that somebody or other (Am not taking any names) wrote simple English and made India read ? Mmm, well, have you ever been to school ?! See this: *The Portrait Of A Lady by Khushwant Singh begins like this : My grandmother, like everybodys grandmother, was an old woman. She had been old and wrinkled for the twenty years that I had known her .... Is that Shakespearean English, that no Indian can ever understand? *An excerpt from Astrologers Day by R K Narayan : It was nearly midnight when the astrologer reached home. His wife was waiting for him at the door and demanded an explanation. He flung the coins at her and said, Count them. One man gave all that. Is it something so hard that Indians may never understand?!! Well, I just picked two examples. There are innumerable. I learned it all in my high school language books. Indians who pick English books to read have gone to school, I believe. Then it was not simple English that we lacked, but masala. Accurately, somebody put masala in their works to exploit the ruthless, hungry senses of the crowd, just like our movies forced women to show their skin and exibited vulgarized human bonds to gather the viewers. Next time, at least to me, please dont preach the nonsense of simple English. Thank you!
