So youre standing on a bridge overlooking a railway track one day and theres a fat guy standing next to you. You dont know him. You can hear screaming and, as you look down onto the track, you can see four people tied to the track in front, staring and screaming at you. Theres a fork in the railway line just before these four people and on the side track, you can see that theres another person tied to the track, also staring and screaming at you. Then you hear a roaring sound. You turn around and look down the track in the opposite direction, and you can see a push/pull railway trolley with no-one on board, hurtling down the track in the direction of the four people. There is a lever next to you and if you pull it, you can direct the railway trolley onto the side track. Alternatively, you could push the fat man off the bridge. He would fall onto the track and would stop the trolley from colliding with the four people, but the fat man would die. Or you could do nothing. There are no other options What would you do? Do nothing? Pull the lever? or push the fat man off the bridge?
