Soapbox Sunday: Todays topic is Do Not Torment My Dog I was talking about how well adjusted Sweet P was the other day. She has no bad habits. I do not have to yell at her for anything (she DOES swipe a shoe and look at me when she is hungry. Doesnt chew it -- just sits there and looks at me hoping it will move me into action and feed her). She is a really happy dog. She is with me 24/7/7/52. She is so silly and downright FUN to be around. She has 100% trust in me. She will lay on her back on me or anywhere. She knows she is not going to get hurt with me. I have NEVER played rough with her, nor tormented her playfully. I do not think it is fun nor cute to toss her around like a ball, slap on her playfully, etc. I do not tease her. In a nutshell, I do not torment her. Many people think they are doing the dog a big favor by rough housing with it. Why? As a human, I do not liked to be pushed around, slapped around, teased in playing. Sweet P and I play. She loves to be chased out in the back yard. She loves me to throw her toys in the house and chase. I dont even speak to her in a mean voice. And I pretty much went ballistics the other night when Greg was talking awful to her and she had just barked at a car going by OUTSIDE. I have watched people with their dogs they they truly love and would die for. But they are just down right tormenting them in many ways and they dont even realize it. . They play with them so terribly rough. I can see the dog look like what in the h*ll did I do to deserve THAT? Sweet P has only been around that kind of person a few times. Most everyone treats her so sweet. She absolutely LOVED a week vacation with our friends Dan and Robyn and Gay and Gary. They were so sweet to her and she stuck to them like glue. Just think twice when you are yelling mean at your dog. Is it accomplishing anything? And do YOU like to be teased and jerked around? Sorry about this rant. I may be accused being TOO nice. But my dog has no bad habits. My dog is 100% happy. And I am too. .
