Sobering thought: What if Mars had a climate closely like earths, except the evolution of their homo sapien like life happened a few million years before ours did. What if they made the same mistakes were making today and hence suffered from intense climate changes that ravaged Mars to the point that it was no longer habitable. I wonder if they too had their extreme tea-party conservatives telling them its all a bunch of nonsense. Even if NASA and MAVEN did discover that this was Mars fate and were heading down the exact same path, our corporate driven conservatives would still try to argue that climate change is a bunch of silly left-wing shenanigans and somehow still swing majority votes... probably even if our atmosphere was literally on fire.
