Social media is an AWESOME tool to use to spread a message far & wide, to ask for the publics help - whether it be finding a missing loved one, witnesses to an event, or a lost pet - however, please please please, if you post something like this, go back and update the original post when/if there is a reason to do so, and by that, I mean editing the description on the picture or the post itself so that when other people see it, they will know that there might not be a reason to share it anymore.... or better yet, remove the original post completely when its no longer needed. When I see one of these that I want to share, I always take a minute to read the comments on the original post or even go a little further & visit the original posters page or searching for an updated news link... just to make sure that there is still a valid need to continue to share the post. Some of these keep getting shares for weeks, months, or even years after theyve been resolved. People keep sharing because they care and want to help, which is awesome, of course, but many times, not necessary for whatever reason anymore. There was a dog, for example, missing in a city close to me, that was only lost for a few days, but 6 months later, his picture & plea for help is still being shared. Theres another one about a found dog from about a year ago, that I still see posted occasionally, a very long time after the dog was already returned to his owner. Theres a British boy who was missing 2 yrs ago and found safely shortly afterwards, and posts are still circulating. If the original information isnt updated, then sadly, the ones who truly need our help still kinda get lost in all the other outdated noise of social media. So please update or remove those original pleas for help, when resolved.... thats my .02 for this evening ;)
