Society has really changed its views about trans people, I mean look at Laverne Cox! Stop. Just stop. While Laverne Cox is a huge success, she is one person and she cannot represent every trans person. And if you want to argue that somehow society is more accepting now, please go look at the number of trans people who have been murdered this year, and in the light of recent events, look at the number who have committed suicide. Anyone who thinks its better is lying to themselves. When parents bully their daughter and call her a mistake and wrong and selfish, and isolate her to the point where her only safe place was in front of a semi it isnt any better. Her parents didnt even have the ability to say sorry, to say she had committed suicide, to say that Leelah Alcorn was Leelah, not Josh. It isnt better. It isnt safe to be trans yet. And if you just sit there complacent because you arent trans, or because your child isnt trans you are part of the problem. I dont care at all what your religion is, I dont really care about your feelings about trans people, but if you think what happened to Leelah Alcorn is in any way acceptable or excusable you are not okay with me and you need to do some serious thinking if you can rationalize the abuse of a child. Go a head and unfriend me, tell all your friends and family that Im some radical crazy liberal hippy trash queer kid with no grasp on reality, say it to my face I dont care. At least Ill never tell someone theyre broken or wrong for what they know to be true.
