Sodium Hydroxide = Lye. All soap is made with Sodium Hydroxide. Its the chemical reaction called Saponification that creates the soap. Everything else is extra (scent/color/design). All of my soaps are made with food grade sodium hydroxide, and are more gentle to the skin than typical store-bought detergent beauty bars. I challenge you to flip the package over and read the ingredients. All of the ingredients for my soaps are plainly listed, and most ingredients are words you can pronounce. :) Take a minute to read this article so the mystery around Lye Soap can be eliminated. Its not the lye that makes the soap incredibly drying or harsh - its the oils or fats used to create the soap.
