Soldiers are not responsible for the heinous acts of governments. - TopicsExpress

Soldiers are not responsible for the heinous acts of governments. Their sacrifice comes from a pure place and should be respected. Ill admit that Im happy to live a country with a strong military. War is ugly and tragic. Unfortunately, human nature, and our base desires are also often ugly and tragic. I just wish that that the powers that be didnt use soldiers as chess pieces in their political crusades in the pursuit of acquiring more power. I wish that dying in a war wasnt viewed as a cultural necessity for peace. I wish that the poorest neighborhoods had safer ways to pay for an education than joining the military. Im not one to concede with any current state of affairs and say well, thats just the way it is. Be thankful for what you have. The current state of affairs can most definitely progress and be better. I hope that one day, every soldier comes home alive with an enriched perspective of the world and a higher view of the value of human life. I hope that one day, when we send our troops abroad it truly is to liberate nations and to aid those in harms way. Not to carry out a carefully planned Coup détat. Or to bleed a poor nation for oil. There are more humane ways to conduct business. Maybe one day we as a people will place value on the way the game is played, instead of just on what is won. And I hope that one day in the future, America as a nation will not simply be feared and laughed at abroad, but respected as a country known for spreading peace, upholding justice, protecting the innocent, squashing corruption, and shining light on the truth. That is a vision worth fighting for.
