Some 5,000 senior citizens living in Nee Soon GRC will get subsidised eye screening for the next five years. Over the next 13 years, we are going to have nearly a million people crossing 65. Health is going to become an even more important issue to focus on, said Minister for Foreign Affairs and Law K Shanmugam Sc, who is also MP for Nee Soon GRC. The screening costs S$6, but residents aged above 50 need only pay S$3. The remainder is subsidised by Nee Soon GRC. This is part of a tie-up between Khoo Teck Puat Hospital and Nee Soon GRC and marks the first time the hospital is working with the grassroots on a mass eye-screening programme.
