Some Australians will be surprised that these people are not monsters, nor were they ever a threat to Australians. They were asylum seekers from war torn Afghanistan ... a place that Australian military assisted the USA to bomb up and co create hell in under other excuses. Australia also paid around $19billion per annum to aid USA to do so, by the way. Now these people are grown and have achieved much, with no thanks to Australia. This was initially under the direction of John Howard who was more worried about whether people had stood in an imaginary queu to get here than their need to escape life threatening circumstances in a home country no longer inhabitable. Small New Zealand could take them in, though. How shameful. But then, not surprising for this country that rejects its own Indigenous peoples, steals their lands, drives them off into deserts, takes each landscape as they go along for mining, sends in the military when they ask for social help and to fix the long term infrastructure neglect and then treats the Indigenous people like an underclass of squatters in their own country and blames them for their disadvantages ... after repeatedly carrying out genocide attempts on them since colonial times. South Australia outlawing the northern Aboriginal successful international trading route built and sustained over centuries with the East and putting them on welfare payments was a real doosie. Now governments can say its their fault that they have no jobs. And the constituents of Australia can say that too. And they do. Both also say that asylum seekers are illegal. Yet,Australia not only signed an International agreement to protect asylum seekers, to take them in, from 1952 and onward....it has never been cancelled, but Australia initiated the agreement. In other words, Australia WROTE the thing. Interesting that now Australia expects other countries to take on the asylum seekers whilst refusing them here. This is indeed a shameful country, but not for the reasons Abbott says, rather, especially because Abbott and Liberal parties represent the worst of policies in these respects and secondly because the so called Left is not better. Rudd apologised to Indigenous peoples, but now apologies are owed to asylum seekers. Not that much is done after apologies either, but it could be a start.
