Some Local Square Dance History: Before the Dixie Chainers, There - TopicsExpress

Some Local Square Dance History: Before the Dixie Chainers, There was a Club in this area named The Square Dance Club. The Club Caller was Bob McClary. He was a grocer who lived in Farmers Branch and belonged to Chapel Hill Methodist Church. He died in 1947 and is buried in the Keenan Cemetery. His obitary is here: rootsweb.ancestry/~txccarro/People/M/McClary_Robert_M.htm. He was famous for his old time Square Dance Calling. Here is one of his songs from 1942: squaredancehistory.org/items/show/628. According to the following site, he has a SD recording in the Library of Congress: loc.gov/item/afc9999005.17461. Here is another document where he is cited on page 3: loc.gov/folklife/LP/PlayandDanceL9_opt.pdf. I have not been able to locate any Audio of his songs on the web. If anyone has or finds other fragments of local Square Dance history, please post. It would be neat to hear some of these historic recordings.
