Some Thoughts to Live By People often express frustration and say that the problem of animal exploitation is so pervasive, we cant do anything to address it in a meaningful way. I disagree. First, I believe that if we acted together, we could change the world. As Gandhi astutely remarked: “The difference between what we do and what we are capable of doing would suffice to solve most of the world’s problem.” Second, when people despair because they find it difficult to get others to engage in that collective action, I am reminded of another observation of Gandhi: “Whatever you do will be insignificant, but it is very important that you do it.” Third, when people despair over the large number of animals who need homes and how adopting/fostering one animal wont make a difference, I remind them that they are very wrong, and to that one nonhuman refugee you save, you have changed the entire world. Fourth, keep a sense of humor. Again, as Gandhi observed: “If I had no sense of humor, I would long ago have committed suicide.”
