Some cryptic anti-church and anti-catholic and anti-religion - TopicsExpress

Some cryptic anti-church and anti-catholic and anti-religion people somehow always come out of the woodworks everytime a call such as the nine-day prayer period is made. They cry Novena lang? Why dont they distribute their wealth and give up their billions of profits in their sectarian schools etc. (I wished we had them! Maybe they know something I dont?) I just wonder whether they are really after helping others as much as they seem to be after taking potshots at some institution they hate to the bone. Well, for their information, the Church is the biggest NGO in our society, and the first to respond to social needs such as this. All they need to do is scratch the surface and do some research. I speak for the parish where I am. The people just contributed more than 200K for the earthquake victims this past week, and have done another special collection today for the typhoon victims. I am personally appealing to friends here and abroad and, like I did the last time around with Pablo figuring in the disaster scene, acted as conduit to people of faith, who contributed what they could, instead of spitting venom on an institution that has always taken the front lines to helping alleviate problems brought about by disasters such as this. Yes, we Catholics believe in prayer, but we also believe and behave accordingly, that faith without works is dead. And about those so called billions in profit, anyone who has run a sari-sari store at least would know that receipts do not translate necessarily to income and that operations gobble up the bulk of the so-called receipts, that, incidentally, give jobs and livelihood to many, many people. Now is not the time to spew burning embers of hatred, but the time to sow salving ointments of faith and charity that precisely, prayer reminds us of.
