Some days are wonderful, most are okay, and others kick you in the stomach and make you double over in anguish. September 18th, 2013 was one of those days. Deepest condolences to Mikes family, friends, and all those families impacted by this terrible tragedy. On September 18th, 2013, an OC Transpo commuter bus collided with a VIA Rail train in Barrhaven, a suburb of Ottawa, Canada, and, our lives changed forever with the loss of founding choir and Comunn Gàidhlig Ottawa member Michael Bleakney. Mike was with us through all of the formative stages of Ar n-Òran, Comunn Gàidhlig Ottawa, Mòd Chanada and so much more. He gladly took part and was involved in virtually all of our activities. He was a stalwart dedicated man with a wonderful sense of humour that left an indelible mark on all who knew him. Michael Richard Bleakney, August 1st, 1956 – September 18th, 2013 We have chosen to remember Mike by creating an educational bursary in his name that will help him live on in perpetuity. This prize will be awarded annually at Comunn Gàidhlig Ottawas Mòd Chanada event (A Scottish Gàidhlig language/music/cultural event held every June in Ottawa, Canadas National Capital) DONATE TO Mike’s bursary fund at: gaidhligottawa.ca/store/?catid=6 Thank you! https://youtube/watch?v=jCSeWv1OFrg&feature=youtu.be
