Some facts and figures on the new parking plan in Orewa, from this coming weekend. In September 2012 Auckland Transport had a written and on line consultation with local residents and business. The results are below: 19% of surveys were responded to overall. 62% of respondents agreed that parking changes were needed 30% disagreed 8% had no preference Of the 30% who disagreed: 46% were concerned regarding parking for their employees 8% thought 120 was too long 5% thought 120 was too little For the shoppers and visitors, creating one uniform parking duration will increase the amount of parking available in the town centre with: 178 parking spaces currently denoted 90 minutes, becoming 120 minutes 73 parking space currently at 60 minutes will become 120 minutes 6 parking spaces currently at 30 minutes will become 120 minutes So overall, 257 parking spaces are having their duration extended so is actually creating a more user friendly shopper parking environment. Note that the 2 hour limit is 8am to 6pm Monday to Friday only. As a comparison, the new Silverdale parking area is a 90 minute parking zone which is enforced by a private enforcement company and a parking ticket is $65. For the employees, there are only 3 areas which are currently unallocated which will become two hour parking. All other areas in the town already had a parking duration of one length or another. These areas as far as we can see are: HBC Highway from Riverside to Florence roundabouts Centreway Road (town side) from Riverside and Florence George Low Place We realise this will require a change for many as they now need to walk further to their place of work however this is in line with employees at many other town centres.
