Some good news :) Jakarta has finally passed a new bylaw on community participation in waste management. It allows the city to collaborate with the public and allows private companies to manage waste. They are trying to motivate residents and communities to implement and come up with innovative scheme´s to easily manage their waste. According to Article 89 of the bylaw, people who separate their organic and non organic garbage can get fiscal incentives in the form of money rewards, funds or tax reductions. The non-fiscal incentives include easy issuances of permits or awards. Looking forward to this and hope it translates into Bali soon. Separate your organics and non organics people! It is the easiest thing your business and home can do. It does not matter if it goes into the same truck! Its the first step of making life easy for those trying to manage the waste. Every body must participate. The community is where we will find the solution to our self made mess. Lets break down the complexity, make it simple and easy to participate, lets make it easy to find mutual understanding for waste management. Happy Holiday´s everybody :)
