Some great questions to think about from one of the greatest in the industry, Thom Plummer... Here are 7 questions a person should ask himself BEFORE he gets started in any type of fitness program. #1... What is the real reason I want to get started? Telling your fitness professional you are there for health reasons when you are really there because you are getting divorced and look like a lumpy pillow naked leads to both sides failing. #2... Do I understand that I get what I pay for? Paying $10 a month gets you $10 a month of fitness, which means no help, no support and the chance to stand in line a lot. If you want sophisticated help you need to pay for sophisticated help from a real dedicated professional with at least several years of experience. #3... Do I realize that there is no magic workout, pill, special exercise or piece of equipment that will get me in shape in one hour? It took years to get that out of shape. Do I really think that magic overcomes poor diet and a serious case of long term lazy ass? #4... Am I truly honest with myself as to how out of shape I really am or am I calling these 20 extra pounds rolling down the top of my jeans just a few extra inches? #5... Do I understand that what I did back in my glory days most likely will not work on a body that is 20 years older and 30 pounds heavier? #6... Am I willing to commit to a true professional and understand that fitness is not something I do for 6 weeks and am cured but something that is a lifetime journey that will have all the highs and lows of any long-term relationship? #7... Do I understand what intensity in fitness means and that there is no fit without sweat and no lean without commitment. The fitness world would be a better place if personal reflection was a part of the initial process.
