Some initial thoughts on the Syzria victory in Greece. First of - TopicsExpress

Some initial thoughts on the Syzria victory in Greece. First of all, it is a victory. A party that seeks to end austerity and carries anti-capitalist sentiment has just been elected as the ruling party in a country of great significance and that is certainly a victory for the left, not just in Greece but, all over. However, Syriza is not the only party in the Greek parliament, it is one of seven. Of the other six, there is only one other left wing party, the KKE. Syriza, even though it is now the ruling party, has only an uphill battle. If history has shown us anything, its that socialism can only progress so much under bourgeoise democracy. Syzria will probably be able to do some good work for the people, and the people will see more and more the good of socialism. However, I also feel, the people will see more and more that working within the bourgeois state, on the terms of a bourgeois economy, austerity or not, will only achieve so much and that a more radical approach will be needed. The KKE has been growing a strong communist movement in Greece. And just in other places in history, where socialism gets a victory in parliament, the revolutionary left becomes more and more appealing as the bourgeois state and economic apparatus continue to exist and impede the attempt of socialist progress. This has happened many times in the course of socialist history and I feel this may be another one of those moments. I hope it is.
