Some may think I do nothing but raise the alarm about where this country is headed. But we are living in incredibly dangerous times and I fear that far too many people are failing to see it. Please, if you love this country at all, put down your remotes, turn off your iPod, pull off to the side of the road if you need to, and take a few minutes to watch to this exchange between Congressman Trey Gowdy and a representative of the Obama Administration (Mr. Lazarus?), as well as Jonathan Turley, a law professor at George Washington University. Note the way Obamas representative dances around the direct questions Gowdy puts to him about the whether the President has the ability to ignore or suspend the law. But pay special attention to this statement by Turley, referred to by Politico as a liberal law professor and longtime civil libertarian. Turley says, In terms if where we go from here, I...Im not too sure because the great concern I have for this body [Congress] is that its not only being circumvented, but it is also being denied the ability to enforce its inherent powers. Many of these questions are not close in my view. The President is outside the line. But it has to go in front of a court and that court has to grant review. And thats where we have the most serious constitutional crisis, I view, in my lifetime, and that is, this body [Congress] is becoming less and less relevant. Turley, a liberal Democrat, doesnt say that what is developing is a typical political squabble between Democrats and Republicans. He doesnt say that this is just a run-of-the-mill tussle between the President and Congress. He isnt saying that this is a liberal-conservative disagreement over what the size or scope of government should be. What he says is that we have reached the point of constitutional crisis, that the President is intent on making Congress irrelevant and that the courts are failing to step in to stop him. And who is Congress, exactly? Thats us, folks. Members of Congress directly represent We the People. Turley is rightly sounding the alarm that the American people are on the doorstep of becoming irrelevant in governing ourselves. We are transitioning from a democratic republic into tyranny where the law is what the President says it is, subject to change upon his whim and without notice. For that reason, the outcome of this years elections couldnt be more critical. The general election will determine if we end up with a Republican majority in Congress with the power to stop this President in his brazen grab for raw political power. The primary elections occurring right now will determine if that Republican Congress will be comprised of men and women with the will to exercise that power. https://youtube/watch?v=M0aVD79mcwE
