Some of the incidents Hamilton Police responded to over the weekend: Street Robbery On October 4th, 2013 at approximately 11:30 p.m., a woman was walking on Centennial Pkwy in the area of Eastgate Square when she was approached by two unknown men, one on a bicycle. One of the men distracted the woman by asking for directions as the second suspect pushed her from behind causing her to fall. The second suspect grabbed the victim’s purse during the assault. Both suspects’s then fled the area. The victim suffered minor injuries. Both suspects’ are described as black males with thin builds, one of the suspect’s riding a white BMX bike. Fail to Remain Collision On October 5th, 2013 at approximately 3:30 a.m., three pedestrians were walking on the west side of Garth Street just south of Sanatorium when a vehicle came up onto the sidewalk striking two of the group with the vehicle’s side mirror. One of the three was riding his skate board on the roadway southbound when the front end of the vehicle struck the rider from behind. The impact threw the victim to the ground. The vehicle continued on and did not stop. The 18-year-old victim on the skateboard was taken to the hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries. The Hamilton Police Service Collision Reconstruction Unit continues to investigate and asks anyone with information to call 905-546-4755. Impaired Driving On October 7th, 2013 at approximately 10:30 p.m., Hamilton Police responded to the parking lot of the Renaissance Banquet Hall to investigate a collision. It was reported to police that the driver of a Suzuki motor vehicle backed into the rear of a parked, unoccupied vehicle. Once on scene police located the driver who showed signs of impairment. The driver was arrested and taken to the police department for a breathalyzer test. The driver blew over the legal limit. The 30-year-old Hamilton man was released on a Promise to Appear with a charge of Impaired and Over 80 mg. Impaired Driving On October 6th, 2013 at approximately 2:25 a.m., Hamilton Police responded to the area of Deerhurst Road and Red Oak Road and stopped a suspected impaired driver. The driver showed signs of impairment and was arrested. The driver was taken to the police station and given a breathalyzer test. The driver blew over the legal limit. The 31-year-old Stoney Creek man was released on a Promise to Appear with a charge of Impaired and Over 80mg. HPS Officer Struck in Cruiser On October 5th, 2013 at approximately 12:30 p.m., Hamilton Police responded to the Red Hill Valley Pkwy at Queenston Road to investigate a vehicle collision. A Hamilton Police Officer responded to the area to re-route southbound RHVP traffic off at Queenston. The officer positioned his vehicle and activated his emergency lights. A motor vehicle traveling southbound did not stop and struck the officer’s cruiser causing extensive damage to the driver’s side. Hamilton Fire responded to assist in extracting the officer from the vehicle. The officer was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The RHVP southbound from Queenston to Greenhill was closed for approximately two hours. A 22-year-old Hamilton woman was charged with Careless Driving. Workplace Accident On October 5th, 2013 at approximately 11:55 a.m., Hamilton Police responded to a work place accident at a Motor Technologies business on Parkdale Avenue North. An employee was on an extension ladder attempting to install a conduit in the ceiling when the ladder slid out from under him. The man fell approximately ten feet to the floor. The 63-year-old Hamilton man went to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The Ministry of Labour was advised and attended.
