Some of the reviews really blow me away. Heres the lastest 5-star - TopicsExpress

Some of the reviews really blow me away. Heres the lastest 5-star review on Amazon: I read this book on the insistence of a friend. We went to art school together and would never identify as people who think the war in Iraq was a great idea, or that any war is, so her suggestion was a surprise. I expected a story that chronicled a one-sided defense of the US’s military involvement. What I found, though, was an account that dealt with all the personal confusion and moment-to-moment recommitment to service US soldiers confront as well as the toll it takes on their lives after they leave the field. In the midst of struggling to serve their country, these men undergo transformations they neither expected nor chose, and Davis gives you insights into the internal struggles this creates. “Why am I fighting this war?” and “Why are they sending me here?” are questions that he’s not afraid to admit asking himself. He’s brave enough to expose his own demons and difficulties so that others might understand the fullness of a soldier’s experience, and he does so with an articulate humor, compassion, and honesty that any reader will appreciate. It gave me enormous respect for our veterans and challenged my biases about why someone may choose military service.
