Some of these pit bulls are not Pit Bulls either, not American Pit - TopicsExpress

Some of these pit bulls are not Pit Bulls either, not American Pit Bull Terriers, not American Staffordshire Terriers, not Staffordshire Bull Terriers, or mixes of these breeds, they are simply short-haired mutts that fit the physical stereotype of what a pit bull looks like. What the press doesnt understand about this breed: First, even when they were being bred as fighting dogs, they were bred for lack of aggression with people. If you look at photos of old fighting dogs, youll often see them in the yard with the owners small children. Like their cousing, the Staffordshire Bull Terrier, they are generally wonderful with children, and pretty poor guard dogs if you want a dog that will bite an intruder. They were strictly bred to be dog aggressive. The rules for dog fighting (back when it was legal) required each owner to wash his opponents dog before a fight. Dogs that bit people were put down. Second, todayss Am Staff/American Pit Bull Terrier has now been bred as a family companion and working dog LONGER than they were bred as fighting dogs. In this video, I would not allow babies to play tug of war with any dog just because its too easy for the dog to grab fingers along with the toy.
