Some of you know me, some of you dont. If you do know me you know - TopicsExpress

Some of you know me, some of you dont. If you do know me you know that I am a huge fan of Jen Hatmaker. I read her facebook posts and emails and she is downright hilarious. After hearing her speak earlier this year I decided to order some of her books. They are just as great as she is. There is one devotional in her book Out of the Spin Cycle that has stuck with me. Its called My Kids are Headed to Therapy. Jen writes this: Will I ever be enough as a mom? It is enough for the student to be like his teacher, Jesus counseled gently (Matt. 10:25). When the students becomes like her teacher, our failures and omissions as moms recede as the sweet spirit of Jesus covers our humanity. Our children wont remember every paper we forgot to sign, or the week we fed them hot dogs for seven straight days. Theyll forget how we blew off bathtime and bribed them to watch Dora for thirty minutes of blessed silence. What they will remember is how we prayed with them and listened to their little dreams and fears. Theyll never forget how we cared for the broken members of our community, teaching them the mission of Jesus. So vividly will they remember how slow we were to judge, and how quick we were to laugh. Our kids will recall how wildly we loved them, beyond reason and past boundaries. Shes awesome, right! Remember in life, its not about the things you give or didnt give your child or the things you allow them to do or not to do it its about teaching them to love Jesus, it is about us as mothers acting like our Redeemer, talking like He talked and loving like He loved. Thats what they will remember. Jen challenges you at the end of this devotion to filter out every word, decision and activity with your kids that isnt like Jesus. Be like Jesus, nothing else. Can you do that?
