Some of you know that I write about the Vietnam War and am a founding member of Vietnam Vets for Factual History. We are self-described scholars (and in fact we have incredible resources in the group). Few of you would believe the vitriolic input we get from the leftist academics and anti-American Victory rabble. They cannot admit they were not only wrong about the war, they were communist-instructed dupes in many cases. If any interest, this is the kind of claptrap we try to address. wilsoncenter.org/publication/the-resistance-south-vietnam-following-the-%E2%80%9Cgeneva-convention%E2%80%9D The essay is laughable. No study could have been done to support this inane work. The point trying to be made is the great contribution the Viet Cong made to the war effort in the south, ignoring that the North Vietnam communists ran everything. Those VC surviving after the NVN fed them by the thousands into the slaughter of TET 68 (they lost about 40 to 50 thousand troops) were ignored at the end when NVN overran the south. Look, its simple: The North Vietnamese ignored the recognition of South Vietnam as a sovereign nation. Decided in 1959 (in the 15th Plenary) to invade and overthrow the south (hence the Ho Chi Minh Trail). America kicked their butts in an incredibly mismanaged Democrat led war until Nixon came along. Then after the bastards surrendered in Paris in 1973, those same Democrats took all the support away from the South (our allies) and let the Russians rearm and rejuvenate the communist north so they could have the all-out invasion and conquer the South. While we sat on our fat ass and abandoned 17 million people to a twenty year reign of communist terror. There was no substantial anti-war movement in the U.S. The protestors like Fonda, Hayden, Ayers, were for a communist victory over the US and South Vietnam.
