Allow me to share a networking tip: When I introduce you to someone in your field who might be pretty well connected, dont just email your resume (as someone recently did) with a line like If my skills become a need please contact me! That person will be unable to refer or recommend you for anything if they dont know you. At least have a conversation. I mean come on. Think of that other person. They have a thousand things to do, but a month from now they might spot a really good opportunity to MAKE THEMSELVES LOOK GOOD by recommending you for a job but they cant, because all they know is that your resume is somewhere in an email folder and that you might sort of know me. Networking is your pre-interview. Dont turn down a pre-interview.
