Some of you probably think I am going overboard in posting about Ebola. And I have prayed about that. Is it a scare tactic, is it a false flag event, just a conspiracy, or something being hyped in a slow news cycle? But when I read of an overworked Doctors supply list sent back to colleagues, requesting 5,000 body bags? And learned that he expired of the disease before receiving them? I knew that this outbreak has many in the health care world totally overwhelmed. We have been praying for the Lord to come soon, that we could not stand what we saw happening in our government and to our country and the enormous strain of human suffering occurring around the world, most of it imposed by active human cruelty. But a disease like Ebola is a great human equalizer. It affects the meek and the aggressor, the innocent and the abuser alike, without prejudice. In spite of wars and conflict and government aspirations, it will take many who thought themselves invulnerable, too proud to bow their heads to a higher Order. Now Saudi Arabia has announced that the Hajj is closed to West African pilgrims.Think what that means to those living in the afflicted zones being restricted from doing their religious duty. For many, the once-in-a-lifetime mandate will never come. And think of health systems so overworked that hospitals are just closing and soldiers with guns are stopping villagers from fleeing into the jungles. Such a foreign concept to privileged citizens of a privileged nation. Ive ministered in backwards jungles, where even clean water and something besides a dirt floor are an oddity. The last time I did that, some 20 years ago, I returned to my home so humbled by the pervasive poverty (even our impoverished are wealthy by those standards) that I did not even have the heart to use my car for convenience sake. My discouragement eventually subsided and I rejoined the bustle of modern life. But the current quality of life in those countries is just modern enough to allow for motorcycles and electricity but not for education replacing superstition. Is it superstitious of me to believe that Ebola might just be Gods response to prayer in the face of so much wickedness? Nothing evil comes from God. But He just might be thinking its time to withhold grace. And then death and destruction are free to roam like the roaring lion.
