Some of you that follow my postings may have seen reference over the past day or so about a medical procedure I had done yesterday, so I thought Id explain what was done. I had an abdominal aortic aneurysm, a not so nice thing to have if it ruptures. Its been watched over the past six to eight years after its discovery via a routine sonogram. A few weeks ago on one of my regular exams it had increased from 4.1 cm to 5.2 cm. 5.0 is the size at which the risk of rupture exceeds the risks inherent in the surgery, so it was time to act. I went into the hospital yesterday and had the three hour surgery at 11:00 a.m. I had to spend the rest of the day and night under observation in ICU and was released today (Tues). I was a little naive in exactly what the procedure entailed. Whereas I thought Id have an inch or so incision in each upper leg, I counted twelve staples in each when they changed the bandage this morning so they were quite a big larger than I had thought they would be. Nevertheless, it had to be done so no big deal there. So now I have a couple of weeks or more of taking it easy and allowing things to heal, which being as lazy as I naturally have an inclination to be, is no big deal. But the point of this is to thank everyone for the kind thoughts and prayers. I have no doubt they worked. There were more than I ever even thought about that were concerned and praying for me. It was greatly appreciated.
