Some other comments on Rome: I cannot find American style coffee anywhere, not even at a Burger King or McDonalds, americano and espresso are fracking poisonous. Every city I have been to bigger than Saint Paul has been blighted by graffiti and garbage in the street, Rome as well, but it doesnt smell bad. Nicer weather than I have ever experienced. Scooters everywhere, maybe more scooters than cars, but hardly any motorcycles. You can tell scooters are the main thing by the number of junkers still being ridden that look 20 years old with ruptured seats and faded paint. Sitting and watching the morning commute is just thrilling. Flocks of scooters with fashionable people perched on them. The men like it was some German precision driving event, the women are fracking daredevils swooping in and out between the bumpers of cars and around other scooters. No kidding they are exciting to watch. One I saw cutting and plunging in traffic with a nice lap blanket on, another breaking the laws of traction with a scarf around her neck like the damned red baron. No bugs, no window screens. I feel so at home here. Ive only been to a small part of the city so far but I feel more at home than anywhere Ive been before. But the coffee thing is a real problem. Maybe I could move here and open a Starbucks.
