Some pastors say that they should only preach. That was not the case with our historic Revolution churches. The Black Robe Regiment referred to the influential clergymen who promoted American independence and supported the military struggle against Britain. By encouraging the Patriot cause, those ministers helped muster critical support among members of their congregation, which was vital to maintaining the colonists resistance to British. Our pastors need to lead Christians in this fight for a more Godly nation, and encourage Godly men to step up and serve in public office. But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such government, and to provide new guards for their future security. --Declaration of Independence.
