Some people ask: What is the benefit of sharing pictures and video clips of horrific scenes from Palestine, Syria, Burma and other places? From an Islamic perspective, there are a number of reasons and benefits: Firstly, as Muslims we must be aware of what is happening around the world and cannot turn a blind eye to the injustice, oppression and genocide taking place. Secondly, there is already a mainstream media blackout and we cannot allow people to suffer or be killed in silence. How would you feel if your entire family had been massacred but no one heard or knew about it?! Thirdly, whenever we see these images they remind us of our responsibility to help them. Fourthly, they remind us of the peace and security Allah has blessed us with (while other people in the world are suffering and live in fear). Fifthly, we remember to make dua for them. Sixthly, when we see those images we remember to make dua against the oppressors and seek Allahs help and support against them, as well as the obligation to remove those tyrannical leaders from power and replace them with God-fearing men who rule by the law of Allah.
