Some people have asked me if I really believe that Robin Williams - TopicsExpress

Some people have asked me if I really believe that Robin Williams is in heaven. I really have no way of knowing that until I hopefully, one day, His time, get there myself. What I do know is this... That God sees our hearts, the darkness and the light and all our struggles. That if the joy and laughter that Robin Williams gave the millions of people whose lives he brightened at some point is a measure of the greatness of his heart then surely he is now at play in the fields of our Father where the laughter never ends. Suicide is a serious matter but if youve ever lost anyone you love to suicide, you know how difficult that is. We are being unkind when we pass judgment so quickly without understanding what truly drives a person to commit suicide. Today, I am reminded of what a wise and compassionate Jesuit priest once told a bereaved mother whose only son had committed suicide. She asked him if he believed her son was in heaven. And he replied, Your son was very ill, and did not know what to do anymore. So when he did what he did, how should it happen that God would lose him? Im certain that after that happened, God took your son with him. In my book, Between Loss and Forever Fr. Manoling V. Francisco writes, If we have become more understanding of suicide victims, what more for God? If the church now allows suicide victims to be waked in a church, is it possible that God has never banished from His sight those who had taken away their lives? As our child took away his life in secrecy and isolation, is it possible that he was never truly alone? Might God not have been the first to rush to and embrace him as he fell? Prior to our painful discovery of his demise, might not God have been the first to weep? He further adds, In the end time, our souls will be reunited with our glorified bodies. Then, we will behold and embrace our child as we did or wish we had done during his last moments. In heaven, we will all be embraced by Eternal Love. So yes, perhaps in heaven today there is so much more laughter than there ever has been, and that is what I choose to believe.
