Some people may rightly be questioning my position, background or experience when it comes to this Say NO to Council Funding The Beacon Arts Theatre Campaign. Its a fair comment thats been raised a few times and its fair to tell people a little about me, particularly new friends. Firstly, I am NOT a Councillor, I am NOT a Council Official and I have NO affiliation to any stakeholders (Riverside Inverclyde, Arts Councils, etc). I own and operate a small business within Inverclyde where I have lived my entire life. I have 3 kids and a dog with pastimes including water sports and motor sports. In the wake of the famous Independence Referendum I applied for for my first membership of a political party ever but have yet to make an appearance at a meeting! DONT PANIC however, Im NOT AFTER YOUR VOTE! I couldnt care less whether you support Labour, Conservative, SNP, Greens or Lib-Dems. To be brutishly honest, I have a really hard time trusting what comes from a Politicians mouth these days. The one thing I CAN guarantee is that my views are mine and mine alone. They are not distilled through a thousand PR filters or spun into a story for the benefit of one party or another. In fact if you look closely you will see the typos, spelling mistakes and frequent bastardisation of the English language with my grammatical imperfections. I do not answer to a board of directors, a chief exec or committee. If you ask me something, youll get a straight answer. For the most part, I am a board member with a youth organisation and due to the nature of some of the campaigns I immerse myself in, I go to great lengths to keep them completely isolated and detached from my more confrontational or controversial activities. If I believe something is fundamentally wrong or to the detriment of the people who live & work in Inverclyde I will say stand up and say so... (Anti-Knife Campaign, Save Clyde Coastguard, Reverse IRH Cutbacks, etc) If others happen to agree and choose to stand beside me then together we have a chance of making a REAL difference. I take no one for granted, I am grateful for support and will listen to every point of view - even the ones I strongly disagree with. You can message me privately, publicly and I will usually aim to response within 24hrs. Ask yourself why should we have to endure years of bad-decision making for another few years until the next Council Election? If you are not happy with something, do something about it.
