Some people may wonder what marked one as a geek before Star Wars came out. Obviously there were Star Trek, science fiction novels, comic books, but one thing to which I can personally testify is being the only person in your social circle from the ages of 10-15 who was into jazz. My father was a huge jazz fan and could talk for any length of time about just about any jazz musician youd care to name. I picked up my love of jazz from him. As a result, Im probably one of the few kids who ever found himself having protracted discussions with his father about who was a better drummer, Gene Krupa or Max Roach.
