Some people might label me a left wing liberal (and I wear that badge proudly) by this comment but Im going to share it anyway, I hope it resonates with you and if so, please share: It is the duty of those who have enough to eat to speak out on behalf of those who are hungry. It is the duty of those who will sleep in a warm, dry, safe bed tonight to speak out on behalf of those who are homeless. It is the duty of those who are financially comfortable or secure to speak out on behalf of those who have nothing. It is the duty of the rich, whether that includes spiritual or material riches, to speak out on behalf of the poor. It is the duty of the powerful to speak out on behalf of the disempowered. It is the duty of the free to speak out on behalf of the oppressed and imprisoned. If we are to know ourselves as the collective family of humanity, then we cannot exclude others from that designation. If we are all One, then how can we exclude anyone, for any reason? One day, you may be walking in the shoes of the hungry, the homeless, the poor, the disempowered, the oppressed, or the excluded and you will be hoping that someone has the courage and compassion to speak out for you. If you do not think this is your responsibility, then whose is it? If we do not start seeing ourselves as the collective now, when do we begin? We sow the seeds of the future by what we do in each moment. And we reap the harvest of our actions by what we are willing to do for others because what we are willing to do for them, in a spirit of compassion, is what we are willing to do for the world.
