Some people that we speak to say that we already have a Mayor in Copeland. This is true, but the title is misleading. The current Mayor is a ceremonial role, with absolutely no meaning. The role is there for photo opportunities, and... well nothing. A Elected Mayor, on the other hand, is chosen by the public, during elections. The Elected Mayor would be chosen by you, based upon his/her manifesto. It would be the responsibility of the Elected Mayor to implement items in that manifesto, by working with councillors that represent all communities throughout the borough. By all councillors, and the Elected Mayor working together, democracy can work, instead of the current autocratic system.
