Some people think that Muslims are more entitled to support the Palestinian cause than non Muslims, atheists like me...They also think that if one supports the Palestinian cause, one is supporting Islam ( as practiced in Palestine or elsewhere ). And in thinking this way, they are showing their ignorance of the nature of the Palestinian issue. Nope, there is nothing farther from the truth than such an opinion. I and many others support the Palestinian cause because we are opposed to oppression, occupation, genocidal wars, injustice... The Israeli-Palestinian conflict ( to call it something ) is not about religion. Its about occupation, oppression...Palestinian Christians suffer just as much than their Muslim brothers ( and other religious groups ) and giving the conflict a religious and narrow dimension hurts the Palestinian cause. But I am not blaming the Palestinians themselves as I know of no Palestinian who said to me I dont need your support . Its usually the position (mentioned above ) expressed by other people who think they can decide who should support the Palestinian cause and who shouldnt. They also think they are entitled to speak on behalf of the Palestinians and in so doing they denying the Palestinians the right to self-determination. And I am not going to talk about the support ( or lack of it to be more precise ) provided by the Arab and Muslim countries in the middle east to their Palestinian brothers. They are too busy destroying other Arab and Muslim countries to worry about Palestine. So no, I support the Palestinian cause and when I raise the Palestinian flag, I am certainly not raising the Islamic flag.
