Some quarters have called on Chief Justice Sereno not to go to the SONA as she would be embarrassed in a big way if the President attacks her. I have a different view - as not going would be a headline by itself. I personally dont think the President will criticize the Supreme Court in his speech; it would be so stupid if he did that as that would definitely trigger a backlash and the only thing people will remember and talk about regarding his speech. And if in fact an attack was done, my view is that Chief Justice Sereno should not react, should just go back to the Court quietly after SONA, consult with her colleagues in the en banc on what to do next, not issue a statement for at least a day so heads cool down, and only then, if warranted and demanded by her constituents (the judiciary and the lawyers), should she respond. But not in kind, but rationally and respectfully, to show the difference between two heads of departments, between civility and disrespect.
