Some research in the USA 5 years ago, found a 8 percentage point increase in likelihood of a high school student aspiring to a military career for any reported physical maltreatment by ones father. This was controlling for a socioeconomic and other factors using a sample of Wisconsin students from the 1950s. Its a pretty big effect to detect despite substantial under-reporting of physical maltreatment. economics.fiu.edu/research/working-papers/2009/09-12/09-12.pdf The Cycle of (Legal) Violence?
