Some simple laws of physics, and something to ponder. Most of you are familiar with the process of how blanks are made. A material pattern is cut, and tacked to a mandril, and rolled up like a burrito. Next , the entire length of the material/mandril is wrapped with clear cellophane tape. If this is not done, the blank will not bake in the kiln properly. All blank mfgs wrap the tape basically the same way....it is NOT wrapped like thread (ie strands side by side) ...but rather there is an overlap of the flat tape. This is the strongest way to wrap the material, and it squeezes out any air bubbles (hopefully!) and ensures that the blank will have a uniform shape. With me? Switch gears. Completely. Handles on rods we like to be grippy...ie no slip. A simple example of this would be a tuna cord handle. The tuna cord is wrapped on the blank in concentric wraps that NEVER overlap. The round shape of the tuna cord makes for an uneven surface...one that is non-slip. Switch gears again, and summarize: We will all agree that guide wraps should be strong...ie should hold the guide foot in place securely. We all would also agree that that after coating, the guide wraps (or any thread wraps) should be smooth. Well, what if we wrapped on guides with an overlap? Cant do this, uniformly with any rod wrapping thread on the market.....as it is , for all intents and purposes, round. Well, what if you had some HG (Holy Grail) thread , that was actually a shape shifter , but mostly flat , with medium tension---and used this thread to wrap on guides with an overlap , just like the way we make blanks. Would it not be perfectly smooth? Silk threads you say? Ney. They are OK for flyrods...but these do not have sufficient strength to make heavier freshwater, inshore, and tuna rods. But what if there was a thread, that was HG shape...and comes in (comparatively sized..not exact) Size A and C....and was so strong that you can not break it with your two hands? Flat, and several times stronger than any rodwinding thread on the market. And what if this thread came in colors that would make any rod builder drool....colors that can not be duplicated with nylons, or poly threads? What if somebody has been using them for the past several years...somebody that builds rods full time...and as of yet, there are no negative issues with this HG stuff. What if I told you that it has changed many rod builders way of wrapping rods? Think about it. You could stop grinding guide feet, and boiling EVA in vinegar. What if . What if. fact and disclaimer: I dont grind guide feet. I do not polish the inside of blanks. My single wraps done with this new thread, , are twice as strong and durable as your double wraps. どりってまんねん
