Some teach that in order to be saved, a person must forsake the sinful world and stop living in sin. They falsely define this as repentance. In sharp contrast, the KOINE Greek in which the New Testament is written defines the word repent simply as a change of mind (Greek: metanoia). Forsaking the sinful world is a fruit of genuine repentance. All that God requires for salvation is that a person acknowledge their guilty condition as a sinner, thus renouncing the worlds ways in their heart, and trust upon the Savior to be eternally forgiven... To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins (Acts 10:43). What we fail to understand is that the worlds ways include doing some things and avoiding doing other things. Avoiding whorehouses and honky tonks, for example, are surely things we want on the Dont List but not with the idea of gaining salvation by that avoidance. Pious and good behavior may have a form of godliness that many trust in but it is not Gods way of salvation. His way is to trust in Jesus redemption. It is not contingent on our behavior. Our behavior will change as a result of our salvation in Christ who will bring about Godly behavior as He perfects us.
