Some things I have come to believe in almost 65 years. Surround yourself with children whenever possible. They keep you young, keep you thinking, make you laugh and they offer you much satisfaction as they learn from the wisdom and corrections your guidance provides. War is either exciting or romantic. I have been to war and I have watched men die. It is scary, ugly, sad and angry stuff that tears apart families and brings untold grief and difficulties for a lifetime to many who serve in War. War should not be encouraged or glorified in books, cinema or our children’s toys. Do not chase after money for the sake of having money. I know this because I became wealthy at a young age for only the money. I assure you that it will make a poor person of you. Should money find you, through hard work, heritance or simply good luck, then appreciate it and use it wisely or you will lose it. Do not flaunt it or hoard it, but rather share your bounty with others who are less fortunate and you will find no greater satisfaction in your life. Do not walk around any Elephant in the room. Acknowledge it and take action. Denial = misery. Do not live in the past nor unnecessarily dwell on the future. Live each day as your last day and do your best. This will simplify your life and bring you and those around you peace. Accept responsibility for your words and actions and apologies to any that you hurt with them. Then get to work correcting your mistakes. Own and love a dog. They bring you much joy, happiness and laughter. A dog provides hours of play and companionship to children. He or she will protect you with its life. A dog will teach you about optimism, loyalty, companionship, tenacity, tenderness and kindness all without speaking a word. Remove the use of profanity from your vocabulary. It is the lazy man’s language and reflects poorly on you. It is a language of fools. Expect the best from yourself and others but do not be discouraged when others do not expect the best of themselves. Show kindness and mercy to someone new every day and then keep it to yourself. It will do wonders for your soul. Do not complain without offering a well thought out solution. This is whining and nobody likes a whiner. Love your God first and ask nothing from Him. Maintain faith that He will provide all your needs. Thank Him daily for His gift of life, His guidance and His promise of eternal life.
