Some things are so simple we take them for granted. For instance, have you ever fed yourself with a spoon and thought about all the intricacies that brought the food safely to your mouth? Have you ever felt the texture of a spoon and become so overwhelmed that your hand straightens and it falls from your hand? What if the spoon felt like a hot stove or an icicle? What if you were so hungry but couldnt touch your food because the sensation of holding a hamburger or piece of pizza in your hand was worse than your hunger pangs. Xaden will be 3 this Sunday and he has never been able to completely feed himself. While he has mastered simple foods like dry cereal or chips, he cant hold a sandwich, a corn dog or other seemingly simple foods. Spoons and forks are much too overwhelming to hold, much less control. Mind you that Xaden is my third child and it is not for lack of trying. Yes people look at us strange when we are out to eat but every day of his short life I have had to feed my son. People with infants can relate but what if your baby was three or five or twelve. For the last three months weve been fighting through the pain and while he hasnt mastered the skill, he is making progress. You dont know how happy I am to tell you hes getting close, very close. **Xaden working on feeding himself some Trix yogurt, his favorite.
