Some thought on Bonobo news last night: In 2006 I started my music promotion company in its present form - Soundcrash, something that I love so much that its almost painful (actually it is sometimes painful running it sometimes!) Within a couple of months of setting everything up a friend and general music industry future thinker John Power put on a super cool tiny show at a brilliant little venue called the Luminaire in north London that sadly no longer exists. The show was Bonobo aka Simon Green. The first live show in London. I was lucky enough to be one of 150 people to witness the spellbinding performance - an amazing show that was essentially a game changer. I knew Bonobos music from his days at Tru Thoughts and he had just signed to the seminal Ninja Tune Official but this was the first time i had seen a live performance of recorded music that is so beautiful, complex, forward thinking - that worked so well. It had a real effect on me and knew Soundcrash/I had to be involved. We took a chance on doing a show at Koko, a massive deal at the time, a big risk but got through largely because of the success of the soulful Days To Come LP. An amazing show that showed how the sound could rule a large stage, and great vocals from Kathrin de Boer. We kept on going, and a year later took a risk in doing the Roundhouse! Pretty scary place to get wrong - but it was never going to go wrong after Simons incredible Black Sands LP and amazing band feat Jack Baker Ewan and crew, lights from Will Thomas. Bonobos music had never sounded or looked fresher and there was a great introduction to the most incredible singers I have come across in my career with Andreya Triana on vocals. With amazing follow up shows at Troxy, and then a triumphant revisit to Koko - with TWO incredible sold out consecutive nights, plus a historic performance at Soundwave Croatia that no-one will forget. I wasnt sure what Bonobo would do next. How do you better an LP like that? Little did I know that The North Borders was just about to be delivered to the label. Pretty much one of the finest and perfect pieces of electronic music ever made. Ninja Tune hosted an amazing launch at the Roundhouse, an all day celebration of the new record and then we were lucky enough to have the band out in Croatia for Soundwave Festival again. So that was it, the only place to go from there was the truly legendary Brixton Academy. That puts Bonobo up there with the greatest ever electronic artists such as DJ Shadow, Aphex, Daft Punk at their peak and with huge pop bands alike. Could we sell it out, we had no choice and with the LP hitting the top of dance and jazz music charts around the world, winning awards left right and centre plus some very hard work round the clock from the staff in the Soundcrash office we sold that mother out with 3 months spare! Roll on November 2013 - Brixton Academy. I havent seen a better show, ever. I might be using the word epic too much but, it really was. So what do you do when you have sold out 5000 tickets at Brixton Academy 3 months early. There arent any venues in London that are just a little bit bigger. They only double in size. You get those wrong then its game over. However if you had been in that crowd at Brixton Academy you knew EVERYONE there was definitely going to the next one, and they were going to bring their mates!!! Fast forward to last night, an email from Alexandra Palace, host to some of the greatest band in the world throughout history a true London landmark, a place where my dad first saw Pink Floyd and The Rolling Stones, a place that regularly now hosts Jay Z, The Stone Roses, Kings Of Leon, Depeche Mode, Chemical Brothers. The email was to tell me that our show, Bonobos last show in the North Borders LP tour has sold out. The biggest ever Bonobo show, the biggest Soundcrash show (so far!) I cant wait to join the 10400 people in the crowd on the 28th November and celebrate the last in several hundred shows around the world that the Bonobo band has played in this LP tour. Big thanks to everyone who helped promote all of the shows so far, Steve Nickolls and management and mostly huge thanks to Si and band as it is essentially about the music. Its been a long journey to Ally Pally but its a glass of champagne tonight and a bottle of champers at the end of November!
