Some thoughts about the upcoming Ultraworld. Ultraworld was born at the Old Adelaide Gaol on New Years Eve 1994. Ultraworld was created within a unique culture where love of music and each other was paramount and fashion was designed around practicality. Our culture was counter-culture; it was born from the desire, the need, to break out of the mundane sameness of the suburbs during a jobless recession into a world of happiness and excitement. A world where your generosity to others and your dancing skills where more valued than your appearance. Peace, love, unity, respect. There was no emphasis on questionably acquired muscle, fake cosmetic additions or posting 800 selfies taken in various nightclub toilets. We raved because we loved it, we loved our music, our friends and our escape from the rest of the world. We loved the ability to gently drop our stresses and troubles at the door of the rave, to meet like-minded others, to let our world brush aside the real one which seemed to not understand many of us. It was a special time when we were different and unique, even odd. The Jimmy Barnes-loving masses did not get us or really know what we were doing or listening to. This was before they discovered dance music, when it was ours and ours alone. I know I will never forget that time and I believe we, the lot of us ravers, were riding a wave that many never get to experience. The twenty years since has been mere emulation.
