Some thoughts from David 1 Timothy 1:12-17 We all have a history. We have events in our past that are wonderful to reflect on, and other events that we would prefer to forget. Some of those things we hide away, ensuring that they remain buried, forgotten and locked away. The Apostle Paul had events in his past that he is not proud of. He says in the 1 Timothy reading, that he was “a blasphemer and a persecutor and a violent man”. But rather than hide his awful past, Paul is willing to share it. Why? Because Paul acknowledges that he was given mercy and grace by God. He knows that the purpose of Jesus Christ coming into this world was to save people just like him. Paul regarded himself as the ‘worst’, but he also knows that Jesus is not interested in what he was. Paul knows that even in a person that was as bad as him, Christ will patiently pour out his mercy so that Paul may receive eternal life. No wonder Paul sings God’s praises in the final verse. If you have things in your past that make you feel like the ‘worst’, be assured that Christ Jesus has patience, mercy and gives grace. Believe in Christ and receive eternal life. Your past will never stop God loving you. Blessings, David
