Some thoughts on the passing of Joan Rivers - from Producer Jen. - TopicsExpress

Some thoughts on the passing of Joan Rivers - from Producer Jen. I remember seeing Joan Rivers speak at the Unique Lives and Experiences lecture series in Montreal with a dear friend back in the 90s. Joan was incredibly funny, but what I remember to this day is her message of compassion. She spoke about the days after her husband died. She spoke of the amazing strength she got from her daughter and from the people she loved. She also spoke of her feelings about the people who had been unkind to her and to him when he was alive and how she rejected their sympathy after his death. The time to be kind, she said, was when Edgar was still alive. The time to be kind is now, not later. She also asked us all to introduce ourselves to the person sitting next to us, and to say out loud Nice to meet you, Im so glad Im not you. Her reason: you just dont know what is going on in someone elses life, so it is not your place to judge or to envy. I remember laughing at that, as both my friend and I were going through things in our personal lives that I wouldnt have wished on anyone - and Joan was right. No one would have known, just looking at two young women laughing and enjoying a night out together. So while the world remembers her wicked humour and her groundbreaking career ... today, I am remembering Joans words about kindness, bravery and getting through the worst of days with a joke, a smile and a friend to hold your hand. Thank you, Joan, for all of it. Rest now in peace.. ctvnews.ca/entertainment/trailblazing-comedian-joan-rivers-dies-at-81-1.1991424
