Some time ago I ceased sending my verses to various poetry magazines; my best efforts were usually returned with lines by the editors, expressing appreciation for the rhymes, but requesting me to contribute verses less bitter or rebellious. My answer generally was that I refused to emasculate my stuff - poor as it was - for the empty honor of seeing my name in print. If poetry magazines paid for contributions it would be different.
