Some wonder my credentials to teach the three areas posted below. Here is a short list of some of my qualifications for any that care about such things: 1. Started studying martial arts in 1982 with Judo. Currently focus on Hapkido, an art I first studied in 1989, and then restarted in 1996 when living in Korea specifically to study it. Currently a 5th dan with 11 instructional DVDs out based on Hapkido. 2. Business degree with minor in Communications, Law Degree with advanced courses in mediation and negotiation. Have taught many lawyers in Montana and Washington at CLEs (Continuing Legal Education) and used to write a monthly column on negotiation for the Montana Lawyer magazine. Have taught 40 hour mediation courses. 3. Military and various self-defense training besides my martial arts for many years. Wrote first book on self-defense that was published by Paladin Press in 1996. 2-disc DVD set by Paladin Press on Streetfighting Essentials that was originally Self-defense Essentials. For the last two years Ive been studying Active Shooter incidents and responses from various books and DVDs, as well as live training by Safarilands course where Ive been teaching Safarilands curriculum since January. Our group is supposed to be filmed in a couple of weeks by a Washington DC based PBS station for a documentary they are filming. My active shooter response courses are based on a combination of the courses Ive been teaching with this other group, and other things bringing in. Teaching experience includes: Teaching at the 2nd ID Scout Sniper School, teaching honor course for two years at University of Montana, teaching English in Japan and Korea, Teaching Leadership and Communication workshops for the Center for Leadership Development, teaching a regular on-going Hapkido class since 2001, teaching many CLEs, workshops, and seminars. So now Im trying to combine this experience and knowledge in the best way to help as many people as I can and make a living to support my family doing it.
